Colchester U-9 Soccer

The Colchester United U-9 team closed the books on a tremendously successful season with a road trip to Rhode Island where they competed in the annual Barrington Invitational Tournament. Playing four games in two days the United didn't falter. Shutting out their opponents in all but one game the United demonstrated effective teamwork.

The United began their campaign with an early morning blanking of host team Barrington. Highlighting the scoring was Patrick Egan with his first hat trick of the season. Their second match of the day found a Portsmith team on the losing end of another Colchester shutout. Austin Rhodes accentuated the match when he pierced a goal kick deep into the opposing defense to earn a well deserved assist.

Day 2 again provided unequalled play by the Colchester side. Trevor Bis took it upon himself to secure the first match with a spectacular steal and score off an opposing goal kick. The United then engaged divisional rival Old Saybrook in a heated exchange. The United played fair, kept their composure, and were rewarded with arguably their most impressive shutout victory.

Colchester U-9 Soccer

The Colchester United U-9 Boys ended the regular season with back-to-back victories last weekend, starting with an aggressive 5 - 1 victory over Old Saybrook and finishing with a 4 - 0 shutout of visiting team Lyme/Old Lyme.

Motoring to Old Saybrook the United obtained a lopsided 5 - 1 win on goals from four different players. Trevor Bis, Patrick Egan, Jarred Guerra (twice), and L.J. Luster each scored for the winners. Chase Griffin was noted for several assists. Austin Rhodes and Matthew Lund consistently shut down the physical Old Saybrook attack, keying the three second-half scores. Ethan Reever provided the winning work in net.

The 'United' finished the season on a high note with their fifth shutout win, a 4-0 whitewash over Lyme/Old Lyme. Colchester jumped out to an early lead on a Patrick Egan breakaway in the seventh minute, and Patrick added his second tally just five minutes later with the help of a Trevor Bis assist. L.J. Luster also assisted on an Egan goal early in the second half to provide a three-goal margin. Ethan Reever, Daniel Kaminske, Matthew Thoms, and Daniel Barrack productively patrolled midfield in the second half, creating numerous scoring chances which, despite being thwarted by the Lyme/Old Lyme defenders, effectively prevented a comeback by the visitors.

The United travel to Barrington RI this weekend for their final tournament of the season.

Colchester U-9 Soccer

After a nail biting scrimmage with neighboring Marlborough the Colchester United squad garnered a successful 4 - 0 match over visiting team Ledyard.

Chase Griffin started the scoring early in the first half when he blasted a low hard shot off a classic set up pass from Patrick Egan.

Trevor Bis scored twice, once off a Matthew Thoms assist and once on an unassisted solo run from midfield.

And, netting his second goal of the season, Danny Kaminske scored when Hayden Couture lofted a corner kick in from the right side.

Defensemen Matthew Lund and Leo Francoeur rarely let Ledyard cross midfield, holding their opponents to just one shot during the match.

Daniel Kaminske, Matthew Thoms, and Austin Rhodes shared the combined clean sheet in net.

Daniel Barrack, Ethan Reever, and L.J. Luster each had strong games for the Colchester side.

The 4 - 0 shutout was the United's 4th of the season.

Colchester United plays their final divisional game this Sunday November 6th at 2:30pm on home field R5B.

Colchester U-9 Soccer

A third straight rain-abbreviated weekend could not prevent the Colchester "United" team from posting in the win column once again.

The boys U-9 team, which has played all season with a short roster, put forth another strong effort and was rewarded with a 1-0 decision over Waterford.

The first half was a defensive struggle, with excellent offensive play from midfielder Daniel Barrack and determined defense from fullback Austin Rhodes who forced the Waterford attackers to the sides of the field and away from the net.

In the second half it was Trevor Bis who finally broke the stalemate when he scored off a perfect in stride assist from Patrick Egan in the 38th minute.

After Trevor’s goal, Waterford's comeback attempt was stymied by goalie Dan Kaminske's hustling saves in the final minutes. The shutout was preserved with steady work by Ethan Reever at midfield and Jarred Guerra at sweeper.

The entire team worked hard for the full 50 minutes to achieve a well-earned win.

The U-9 boys are scheduled to play Ledyard at 1:15pm on Sunday October 30th on home field R5B.

Colchester U-9 Soccer

The Colchester United U-9 boys journeyed to the LP Wilson Center in Windsor this past weekend for the Paul R Cody Columbus Day tournament. Torrential rains and poor field conditions ended the tournament prematurely but not before Colchester United played their opening game.
The Windsor "Rage" started the scoring midway through the first half but the Colchester "United" team stormed back to knot the score at 1-1 just after the half.
The Colchester defense, anchored by Austin Rhodes and Matthew Lund controlled most of the game with aggressive defensive play. Matthew Thoms and Hayden Couture added to the defensive barrier deflating the offense of the Windsor "Rage". Daniel Barrack and Trevor Bis both provided assertive midfield play.
Patrick Egan iced the outcome when he found the far side of the net on an acutely angled salvo from the right side with only seconds left in the match.

The U-9 boys notched another win this past weekend defeating the U-10 Preston team 4 - 1. Danny Barrack started the game at center forward to help pace the "United's" attack. Making his presence known on defense Austin Rhodes denied the Preston attackers all but four shots on goal during the first half. Preston's only goal came on a well-placed penalty kick to tie the game 1 - 1 at half time. Excellent goal tending was seen by Ethan Reever with four saves in the first half and Trevor Bis with two saves in the second half. The "United's" passing and positional play allowed four different teammates to score. Chase Griffin and L.J. Luster netted one a piece while Jarred Guerra highlighted the scoring when he launched a long-range missile into the upper left corner for his first goal of the season. Danny Kaminske easily beat his defender to post his first goal as well. Hayden Couture demonstrated the endurance that he is known for and once again was a significant contributor to the winning effort.
